Addis Abba, 31 January 2023 – The President of Ethiopia, H.E. Sahle-Work Zewde, received the Secretary-General of the Organisation of Educational Cooperation (OEC), H.E. Manssour Bin Mussallam, at the Presidential Palace in Addis Ababa, and welcomed the establishment of the Organisation’s Headquarters in Ethiopia.
The Secretary-General proceeded by briefing the President on the progress realised in the implementation of the OEC’s common Programme, with particular emphasis on the General Assembly’s initiative of convening a Congress of the Greater South to articulate and construct a third, transformative and solidary way of development, from the South and for Humanity.
They also discussed the importance of ensuring a diverse and democratic participation of Member States and civil society in this process, through a series of sectoral consultations of Governments, academic bodies, civil society and youth organisations.
H.E. Sahle-Work Zewde underscored the particular context of the world calling for paradigm shifts to give answer to the aspiration for a “prosperous, fair, equitable, and responsible future for the next generation.”
The President concluded by commending the Secretary-General for the remarkable progress realised in such a short time since the Organisation’s establishment.
The Secretary-General, in turn, reiterated his appreciation to the Government and People of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia for their resolute commitment to the OEC, as a collective instrument of the South, further demonstrated by the facilities accorded for the establishment of the Organisation’s international Headquarters in Addis Ababa.
