The General Assembly
The General Assembly is the highest governing body of the OSC for overseeing the operational performance and functioning of the Organisation. The functions and powers of the General Assembly encompasses a broad range of supervisory, deliberative, elective and financial duties relating to any operational and related matters within the scope of the OSC and the Constitutive Charter.
The General Assembly defines the mandates of other bodies and related organs of the OSC, approves the Strategic Plan and biennium Programme of Activities, considers and adopts resolutions critical to the work programmes, such as the allocated budget levels.
At the First Extraordinary Session of the General Assembly and Summit 2023 of the OSC held from 27-29 June, 2023, in Addis Ababa, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, the President of the Union of Comoros H.E. Azali Assoumani was elected the first President of the General Assembly by consensus of Member States to serve in this capacity until the next ordinary session of the General Assembly to be held in November 2024.
At the First Extraordinary Session of the General Assembly and Summit 2023, H.E. Demeke Mekonnen Hassen, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, assumed the Chair as the inaugural President.
