The Secretary-General of the Organisation of Educational Cooperation (OEC), H. E. Mr. Manssour Bin Mussallam, visited several educational centres this morning as part of the official visit that he is carrying out in the Republic of Gambia.
Accompanied by the Director of Research, Evaluation and Curriculum Development, Mr. Mamodou Jeng, and the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, Hon. Prof. Pierre Gomez, the Minister of Technical Education, Dr. Louis Moses Mendy, the OEC Secretary-General was given an overview of how technical education is implemented at “St. Peter’s Technical Junior and Senior Secondary School”.
Precisely, about the power of transformative education and, in particular, from technical education and training, the Secretary-General exchanged with the professors Adama Mendy y Bubacarr respectively -who shared their experiences, achievements and challenges as educators – and referred to the imperative to dignify technical education, which he described as essential for endogenous, prosperous and equitable development.
At the Gambia Technical Training Institute (GTTI), an institution established in 1980, the Secretary-General was able to exchange with the institute’s management on his contribution to the Government’s efforts in achieving its various development plans.
With the political will to transform the GTTI into a University of Science, Engineering and Technology, the Emerging Center was created, advised by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana and De Montfort University in the United Kingdom.
It also transpired during the conversations that as part of the tutorial, the next Emerging Center focuses on four engineering programs as a starting point: Civil, Electrical, Geomatics and Mechanical Engineering.
