OSC convenes First Conference of Associate Members (CAM), Elects Prof Mahouton Norbert Hounkonnou as first Chair

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 19th May 2023: The Organisation of Educational Cooperation (OEC) on Friday 19th May 2023 convened, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the First Conference of Associate Members (CAM), a platform created by the OEC General Assembly in 2021 to act as a platform for consultation and cooperation among international civil society, research and academic organisations in support of the vision and mission of the Organisation.

At the start of the meeting, the Associate Members elected their first Chair, Professor Mahouton Norbert Hounkonnou.

Dr Hounkonnou is a Professor of Mathematics and Physics at the University of Abomey-Calavi, Benin and the President of the Network of African Science Academies (NASAC). He is also a former President of the Benin National Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters (ANSALB).

 

Speaking at the opening of the meeting, OEC Secretary-General Manssour Bin Mussallam described the CAM as a central subsidiary body of the Organisation that makes the OEC a truly trans-sectoral international intergovernmental organsation that brings together governmental and non-governmental stakeholders.

The Secretary-General called upon the participants to take keen interest in the work of the Organisation by proposing ideas and views to shape the implementation of the Common Work Programme of Member States.

The CAM received, discussed and gave feedback on presentations about the key programmes of the OEC, notably, The Greater South Information System (GreSis), the Framework to Reinforce Exchange between Youth and Regions (FREYRE) as well as the Congress of the Greater South (ConGres).
