3 November, 2022 / Addis Ababa – The Secretary-General of the Organisation of Educational Cooperation (OEC), H.E. Sheikh Manssour Bin Mussallam, and the State Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, H.E. Ambassador Tesfaye Yilma, signed an agreement today for the hosting and establishment of the OEC’s international Headquarters in an official ceremony held in Addis Ababa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Secretary-General expressed appreciation to the Government of Ethiopia for its commitment to hosting the first international, inter-governmental organisation of the Global South and provide it with all the facilities necessary for the successful discharge of its mandate.
He stated that the establishment of OEC’s Headquarters in Ethiopia represents a historic moment for Member States, marking the commencement of the Organisation’s executive phase in service of their shared aspirations for the construction of a third, alternative and equitable, way of development.

The conclusion of this agreement constitutes – the Secretary-General said – a unique and timely opportunity for the realisation of OEC’s mission as a common space for solidarity-based cooperation across the Global South.
The signing ceremony was followed by a press conference attended by high-ranking Ethiopian government officials and media representatives.
