The OSC: The Organisation of Southern Cooperation (OSC) is an international intergovernmental organisation, founded in January 2020 by countries from across the Global South, to “contribute to the equitable, just, and prosperous social transformation of societies by promoting balanced and inclusive education, in order to attain the fundamental rights to liberty, justice, dignity, sustainability, social cohesion, and material and immaterial security for the peoples of the world”.

General Description

Under the overall guidance of the Under-Secretary-General for Public Relations and Engagement (PURE) and direct supervision of the Chief of Section, Digital Communications, the incumbent is charged with creating print and digital content for and about the Organisation that provides information and showcases its Common Programme to its various audiences.

The Content Writer develops content that accurately reflects the ideals, vision, mission and work of the OSC, while raising the Organisation’s profile as leading advocate for building a third, inclusive way of development.

The ideal candidate should have a strong background in print, digital and multimedia content development and exacting attention to details. An added advantage is the ideal candidate should be multi-lingual- Fluent in English plus French, Arabic or Spanish.

Essential Job Functions

As a Digital Content Writer, the incumbent creates content that tells the story of the OSC, its vision, mission and programmes, promoting our brand and making impact across many different digital platforms.

  • Writes, edits and publishes content for websites, blogs, videos, social media posts/campaigns and other platforms, including for corporate products such as newsletters, annual reports and brochures.
  • Creates content that motivates, inspires, educates and informs target audiences about the OSC
  • Work closely with other OSC Programmatic Departments to produce multimedia content that generates results and promotes uptake of the flagship programmes of the Organisation
  • Create innovative, engaging multimedia products
  • Liaise with Design and Strategic Communications Officer in developing materials
  • Use various editing and content management software to publish across various digital platforms
  • Use knowledge of SEO and content development software to create digital content that helps the Organisation get found via search engines.
  • Contribute to the implementation of the OSC’s Social Media Strategy, including updating content on the corporate social media platforms.
  • Any other duties assigned.

Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • A Bachelors Degree in Journalism, Digital Communications, Literature, Graphic Design with strong emphasis on writing and editing.
  • A minimum of five years of in a busy writing, editing or online publishing environment.
  • Proficient experience in multimedia software tools, graphic design and desktop publishing software including Adobe, Creative Suite, Corel suites, Final Cut, Prezi, etc
  • Experience and understanding of social media platforms and digital media trends
  • Experience of Website Management and Content Management Systems
  • Excellent writing skills to produce content for a wide range of platforms—digital, website, online, audio, video and multimedia
  • Print, video, audio and other multimedia editing skills
  • Strong research and organisational skills
  • Website editing and management skills
  • Professionalism: Knowledge of different aspects of media platforms both traditional and new media. Observing deadlines and achieving results.
  • Accountability: Takes ownership of all responsibilities and honours commitments; delivers outputs for which one has responsibility within prescribed time, cost and quality standards
  • Teamwork: Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organisational goals; solicits input by genuinely valuing others’ ideas and expertise; is willing to learn from others; places team agenda before personal agenda.
